They got me in fairly quickly, people at the counter and the intake person were very nice. And then exactly what I was worried about happening happened.
I don't want pills thrown at me. What I was hoping from this place was a team-like approach where I would talk to a therapist and then meet with a doctor and, together, decide what the right route for medications for me are.
I go here and like the other post yes Dr. Letif is a little bland for a better word the Therpist and nurses and social workers are awesome and all so work as a team for you. The person on the other post should have stuck around because I been through almost every other mental health place trying to find the right place and not have the same thing with the meds being thrown at you but you know what you need those meds. I just didn't take them for years and years but now that I am advising taking them I feel so much better. I do get scared I'll fall back into being petrified of leaving the house but those feelings are staying to become fleeting. You can't talk someone out of depression because it's a chemical imbalance so you need the medication
What happened was that I saw a doctor the very next day, he sat me down for an hour, asked me the the exact same questions that were asked at intake, spent 95% of the time staring silently at his screen typing away at the keyboard. The entire time I gave the required 1-sentence answers with he asked for very little elaboration on. At the end of an hour he jumped right into throwing medication at me without me ever speaking to a therapist. It was overly sterile and highly impersonal. When I balked at getting a prescription right away, he pointed out that we had been talking for an hour and that he didn't have all day to 'get to know me'. Well, guess what, as pointed out before, most of the time was spent me sitting in a cold, bland room with him putting information into the computer. I'd say us actually talking consisted of about 5% of the time I was in there.
I'm not sure if this is typical, being as this is my first experience reaching out for possibly needing medication for depression, but it was a disheartening one. I will not be going back.
